There are so many things that I like about being a student at PSU: the beautiful campus, the great city that it is in, the green life, and public transportation. But the one thing I enjoy the most is its diverse population. PSU, simply, brings the world to you through its student connections all over the globe.
As for me, it wasn’t very often that I was able to meet people from all corners of the world. That just does not happen in the part of the world that I came from. The only international experience I had gotten back home came from TV, which was a greatly distorted one. I can say that now, because I have been able to meet people of different places and cultures, and that experience has shattered the myths I had about others.
Everyone on campus, and in Portland for that matter, should take advantage of such an international experience. Instead of forming opinions about Middle Easterners, for example, based of the media, as many do these days, why not come to some of the gatherings of these students and talk to a few of them? Learn what they have to say, hear their stories! I did that myself a few years ago; such interactions not only changed my opinions and biases, they changed my world forever! Are you ready to get out of your shell and see the world for what it is and not what others tell you about it?
