Living On-Campus at Portland State

As a parent of a college student, I know firsthand that affordability is important to our students and families. Ondine, home to University Success and Victor’s Dining Hall, is one of our most affordable options on campus.  First year students live on their own floors of the building in units with private bathrooms.  Most first year students have a roommate, but students may designate a preference for a single room when signing up.

Our rates include electricity, water, gas, garbage, and high-speed wireless internet access.  Our off-campus students report spending an average of more than $150 per month on these, but our residents don’t have to worry about paying additional utility bills.  Our units are furnished, which saves you money on buying furniture.  Students can also choose whether or not they want to live on campus in summer, an option not often available to students living off campus.

We take the complexity and unpredictability out of housing for students.  With this in mind, it is no surprise that students who live on campus do better in school, graduate faster, and report a better college experience upon graduating than students who live in off-campus apartments.

We hope you will help your student make the best decision to support their success on campus next year and encourage them to live on campus. Please feel free to reach out to me personally with any questions or concerns. We are here to help.

All my best,
